Microsoft Unbundled Teams from Microsoft 365 & Office 365  

Microsoft recently updated the licensing framework for Microsoft 365, Office 365, and Teams in all regions outside of the European Economic Area and Switzerland (EEA+S). This strategic approach, following the adjustments made previously in Europe, aims to ensure consistency and clarity for customers.  

Effective April 1, 2024, Microsoft will unbundle Teams from Enterprise Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites. Here’s a comprehensive guide to the recent updates: 

• Microsoft will be ending the sale of all existing Enterprise SKUs with Teams (Office 365 E1/E3/E5 and Microsoft 365 E3/E5) to net-new subscriptions worldwide​. 
• Microsoft has introduced a new set of Enterprise suites without Teams​ and a new standalone Teams SKU for Enterprise. 
• Microsoft continues to offer existing Frontline and Business suites with Teams alongside the new versions without Teams. 

So, how will this impact both new and existing customers? Here’s an overview of the changes across different suites: 

Enterprise 

Microsoft has ended the sale of all existing Enterprise SKUs with Teams to net-new subscriptions in all regions outside EEA+S. 

1. New commercial customers will be required to purchase these Microsoft 365 Enterprise suites: 

• • • Office 365 E1/E3/E5 (no Teams) or Microsoft 365 E3/E5 (no Teams) 
    • To those who wish to include Teams, they will need to purchase a separate SKU for Microsoft Teams Enterprise.

2. Existing Enterprise customers will have new options: continue their current licenses with Teams, renew or upgrade to suites with or without Teams, or change to suites without Teams.

Frontline  

1. New Frontline workers will have the option to purchase any of the following licenses with or without Teams:  

• • • Office 365 F3  
    • Microsoft 365 F1/F3  

2. Existing Frontline workers will have new options: continue their current licenses with Teams, renew or upgrade to suites with or without Teams, or change to suites without Teams.

Business   

1. New Business customers will have the option to purchase any of the following licenses with or without Teams:   

• • • Microsoft 365 Business Basic/Standard/Premium  

2. Existing Business customers will have new options: continue their current licenses with Teams, renew or upgrade to suites with or without Teams, or change to suites without Teams.

However, there are certain scenarios where existing customers will be required to start a new subscription and purchase Microsoft Enterprise suites without Teams:​

• Changing from another channel to CSP​
• Changing the billing frequency​
• Allowing a subscription to expire​
• Tenant to tenant migration (new company name)​
• Adding new subscriptions
